Democracy! Not Really

It deeply concerns me to see the state of Western politics vis-a-vis the rest of the world. Democracy means different things to different people. Oxford dictionary defines democracy as “A political system that allows the citizens to participate in political decision making or to elect representatives to government bodies”. Anyone that is even slightly aware of how economics, politics, business and religion work, will know that this is a fantasy that was created by the European colonisers to subjugate and rule countries in their ideology and religion(Christianity). The west, post colonisation, forced their versions of democracy disproportionately in different parts of the world as a form of governance while establishing institutions like the International Monetary Fund, World Health Organisation, United Nations, etc. to keep control over its lost empires via a new modern mechanism that the rest of the world is only in the last two decades woken up to.

Focusing on the UK, we have what can only be described technically as a constitutional monarchy which by legislation and convention, operates as a unitary parliamentary democracy. The King rules over his subjects and can not be arrested or imprisoned for any misdemeanours, let alone crimes of a serious nature. As citizens we have to swear allegiance to the King and his heirs and successors and not citizens of this country. Its the biggest scam pulled by the monarchy and supported by a few elitists that no matter what the economic situation this country goes through, the Monarchy will always tend to benefit sometimes even more so in a crisis. The current cost of living crisis is a classic example. Politicians who are elected, from day one are made to swear to protect the King and his family and institution by law! Our elected representatives cannot work for the benefit of its citizens as long as we have this archaic institution ruling over us all. For those who genuinely believe that the King and his institution do good and are crucial for the United Kingdom, then please think again! The Monarchy created the “House of Commons” the clue is in the name for us all commoners that we are lesser than them.

People are not engaging with politics due to the disillusioned state of the political system, which only encourages and rewards cronyism and party loyalty. Politics is become the most lucrative career in most democracies around the world as you are richly rewarded by corporations and private investment firms for influencing policy and passing legislation that benefits these companies during your term in office. Christmas is upon us and its heartbreaking to see supermarkets having to resort to electronically tagging food items from being stolen including milk, something that you never thought somebody would steal.

So what do we do as citizens to make life better in our communities? Firstly become aware of hidden agendas by individuals locally who once elected are only supporting their pet projects and people. Secondly, expose these elected representatives via your local newspaper and via social media and finally our elected politicians should go to prison for lying while doing their job, a must for the future if democracy has to survive and thrive..
